South Indian Actor Suriya is the founder of Agaram foundation

Surya is a famous South Indian Actor. He starred in Tamil films, such as Nandha (2001), Kaakha Kaakha (2003), Pithamagan (2003), Perazhagan (2004), Ghajini (2005), Vel (2007), Vaaranam Aayiram (2008), Ayan (2009) and Singam (2010). He made his Bollywood debut in Ram Gopal Varma's Rakht Charitra (2010). As of 2010, he has won three Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards.

Surya was born to actor Sivakumar and Lakshmi on 23 July 1975 in Chennai. He is the eldest of three children, his younger brother is actor Karthi and he has a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar. He attended Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan School and St. Bede's School in Chennai and obtained his under graduate degree BCom from Loyola College, Chennai.


In 2008, Suriya began the Agaram Foundation, Agaram foundation is an organization which works for under privileged to attain their right to knowledge and good education. Actor Surya believes education is the source which can definitely bring up good fortune to all and also the economic conditions in India. Without education people do not know how to survive, which is a result they chose the wrong path. Because to live money is important to earn they do the criminal activities to earn. If they are provided with proper education these can be definitely be avoided and crime activity will also be reduced to greater extent.


Sivakumar Education Trust was founded by Mr.Sivakumar in the year 1979. He initiated the trust for the philanthropic cause of supporting the education of the poor and needy from the rural thick of TamilNadu. He continues to deliver the service of awarding financial assistance to the state topper in the Higher Secondary Examinations every year. The 25 years legacy of nurturing the needy is now carried on by his beloved son and well acclaimed actor of the present age Mr.Surya.


Agaram provides a platform for better learning, a podium to brighten their tomorrow and give them the best in their pursuit of happiness by transforming their dreams to reality.

Founder’s Message

"Education promotes civilization and enables an individual to conquer challenges. I am reminded of Vladimir Lenin here when he came to power he said the first thing he would reform is education second is education and third is education. We are still at the grassroots its high time we realize that education is no more a want but a basic necessity in life apart from food, shelter and clothing. It is an answer to overcome eco imbalance of not only an individual, but of the family and ultimately the society Help extended to an individual in any other form only benefits that individual but when you impart education you are providing hope to the whole family which in turn benefits the society." - MR.SURYA ACTOR

He created a short commercial video outlining child poverty, labour and lack of education, titled Herova? Zerova?. The film was written and produced by Sivakumar and also starred Joseph Vijay, R. Madhavan and Jyothika. Agaram has sponsored 159 underprevileged students in 2010 for their higher education in various disciplines. With the firm belief that the educated mind can not only eliminate social evils but also aid in the socio-economic upbringing of society, Agaram Foundation works towards providing appropriate learning opportunities to the rural populace who do not otherwise have access to quality education.

He is also an active participant in other philanthropic works such as "Save The Tigers" campaign, which aids in the protection and preservation of Tigers in India, and "REACH", a non-profit that cures TB patients for free using supervised medication programs.



Surya married actress Jyothika on 11 September 2006, with whom he was paired in seven films; Poovellam Kettuppar, Uyirile Kalanthathu, Kaakha Kaakha, Perazhagan, Maayavi, June R and Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. The couple have two children, daughter Diya (born August 10, 2007 ) and son Dev (born June 7, 2010).
